The goodbye message

The SeamedUP team would like to thank all of our members and visitors who have come by our website over the last 18 months ~ what a great ride it has been!

None of it would have been as fun, inspirational, or challenging without you and we are forever in your debt.

We would especially like to thank the sites’ supporters and sponsors who helped us along the way. This includes all of the fabric manufacturers, book publishers, online retailers, and you!

We walk away looking forward to what comes next!

Brye, our resident Tech Goddess is excited to apply the knowledge she gained while building this site to something that perhaps takes up a little less of her free time!

Allison, our networker, who loved every inspiring conversation she has been a part of is now a member of the C&T Publishing team and she thanks SeamedUP for leading her to this opportunity.

And Jenny, our social media master is working on her e-book – loosely tightly “what I did when I didn’t know what to do”….

However – we did build this site for a very important reason – because WE wanted it. We longed for a community of fabric crafters who were just as giddy over the latest fabric releases, pour over books looking for the next special project, and love to share what they have made.

But guess what?

We never really had time left to be a part of the site! I guess that’s what they mean when people say ‘if you love quilting, don’t open a quilt shop because you never get time to sew anymore!’….

And so we are happy to know that another website is on the scene that we can be a part of ~ and we hope you will be too!

Threadbias.com is a small start-up, just like us, but they have big plans! If you liked what SeamedUP had to offer in terms of stashing, tracking, and sharing your projects you will find a nice home in Threadbias.
In fact, we asked them to write a message to you! Take it away Threadbias!

We here at Threadbias would love to welcome everyone who has been a part of SeamedUp to join our online sewing community. We've put together what we think is a pretty fun place to show off what you are working on, find friends, and learn from each other. We also have a number of new features coming soon including a design tool. We do our best to listen to the community and make changes to the site based on your feedback. Our team is made up of a couple of quilter/sewists, Amanda and Rebecca, and our resident "web guy" Alex who pulls it all together. Come sew with us!

And so we say farewell to SeamedUP - but we will see all of you on the quilty web!

#LDSI Labor Day Sew In

It's time for another holiday sew in, and this time you have three whole days!  (Four if you get started now while the kids are still at school.)  While we aren't doing an official sew-in with prizes and sponsors, we will be working alongside you all this weekend on the site and in our sewing rooms.

The easiest way to play along:

  • Make sure you have a Twitter account.  Hint:  if you already have a blog, podcast, Flickr account, or SeamedUP membership, pick the same name if it's available.  That helps your quilty friends find you.
  • Use your twitter account to log in to TweetChat and enter the hashtag #LDSI.
  • Share photos, thoughts, and what you're working on in your best 140 characters
If you need company while you sew, Pam from Hip to Be a Square has uploaded a brand new #LDSI podcast episode.

I don't know of any specific giveaways or contests going on, but if you find them please share in the comments section.

See you on Twitter!

Where Are My Groups?

The move is going along nicely, and you should be seeing more library items added back to the new site each day.  We still have some things that didn't translate perfectly...

..that we're working on, but it's coming together.

One thing that's obviously missing is the Groups tab.  What happened to it?

Never fear!  The bad news is that the groups feature that Brye worked so hard to create has to be completely rebuilt in Drupal 7.  She's hard at work on it; we had hoped to include it in the big reveal, but decided not to hold that up any longer for this one feature.

The good news is that we have all the data and posts from the old site and will move them over.  Phew!

The only thing you will have to do is re-join your groups, and go back and link any projects you want attached to a particular group.

Of course we will be shouting from the rooftops when that happens, so keep an ear out.

In the meantime, we hope you are enjoying the site!

Moving On UP

The updated site has been live for almost a week now, and it's starting to shape UP.  As we unpack boxes and put things in their places, you should be seeing any missing stash or projects "reappearing" in your sewing room.

Please don't frustrate yourself trying to recreate those items - we have them and will get them moved.  We'd much rather you spent your time updating your profile and adding in your new projects, stash, and library.

We hope you are enjoying the faster, prettier site and that you find, as we do, that it is easier to navigate.  Thanks for your patience while we were down and as we get settled.

Please don't forget to support our sponsors and click our links; these are the people who keep SeamedUP free.

SeamedUP is Back UP!

Thank you so much for your patience while the SeamedUP site has been having a makeover.  We are excited to let you know that the site is back up and more gorgeous than ever.

We cannot wait to see what you think and to get everyone using the site again.

Don't panic if you go to your sewing room and some of your stash is missing.  Your projects should all be there, but we are still in the process of moving some fabrics, books, and patterns over from the old site.  We wanted to open up as soon as possible for you to stash your new stuff and take a look around.

There are a few things you will have to redo:
  • Update your profile
  • Update your account settings, including your avatar picture.
  • Favorites
Some of the things we've added include:
  • Wish list, for all the fabrics you haven't stashed...yet
  • Changes to Chat it UP to increase speed
  • Removed the thread and friending features - now you can follow anyone
  • Reorganized your sewing room for easier sorting and searching
  • Improved searching and cataloging - now all tag links take you to a filterable search page
We hope you love it as much as we do, and we look forward to your feedback.

Enjoy!

Allison, Brye, and Jenny

Winner of the Sew-Ichigo Contest - Jennie P!

It's time to announce the winner of our Sew-Ichigo pattern contest.

Congratulations, Jennie P., who wrote an entire list of gadgets that she loves in her kitchen.  I'm guessing Jennie is a pretty good cook in addition to quilting.

Jennie will receive her own copy of Sew-Ichigo's Kitchen Classics.  Thanks for playing!

If you didn't win, check out the sale they have going on right now. If you buy both the Button It and the Rainbow Rack of Spools together, they are only $9 (normally $5.50 each).

Don't forget to take pictures of these and any other projects you make to share in your new Seamed UP sewing room just as soon as the makeover is done.  We can't wait to see!

Makeover - UPDATED (x2)

It's been a little too quiet around here lately and you know what that means - we're up to something!

There's so much going on "behind the seams" that I thought I'd pop over to the blog to give you all a sneak peek.  Shhh...don't tell Brye and Allison!

First, Brye is busy as ever updating the site to Drupal 7.  (If that doesn't mean anything to you, don't worry!  It has nothing to do with quilting or sewing.)  These code updates should fix most of our bugs list and keep the site running more smoothly.

Next, Allison is getting bolts of new fabric ready to upload to our already bursting-at-the-seams catalog as soon as Brye gives the thumbs UP.  You'll be able to stash all the latest prints to your streamlined sewing room.

Last, we've contracted with graphics designer Palmer Davis, who also designed the Martingale site, to give us a makeover.  I grabbed a snapshot of it for you!

What do you think?  We are hopeful that these updates will all be live this month.  Can't wait!

Jenny

***edited to add***

Hey everyone - this is Allison.  We are currently having some pretty severe issues with the CURRENT website. The 'Sewing Room' is taking people to an error page. We have been in close contact with our server and no one seems to be able to determine (ie fix it, darn it!) what the issue is...

However; we are closer everyday to the launch of the re-designed (from the ground UP) site and, thankfully, it works as designed!

***UPDATED***

The site is now down while the makeover is installed.  Hang in there!  We will let you know when the site is back up and ready for you to check it out.  Thanks for your patience and for sticking with us.
